Modular Workshop Slabs
Our Civil and Structural Engineers have designed and developed a range of modular precast slabs for mining workshops.
With short term mining operations, or volatile contracts, the initial establishment of essential mining facilities such as workshops and repair bays can be a significant expense. Traditionally, this infrastructure is founded upon cast in-situ slabs upwards of 400 mm thick to withstand the industrial loading it is subjected to. The typically high costs of concreting works in remote areas combined with the temporary nature of these facilities makes this traditional, permanent, and time-consuming approach an uneconomical option.
Rated to withstand CAT 797 jacking loads in excess of 2.9 MPa, the modular precast panels aim to replace traditional mine infrastructure slabs with a quick to install, transportable, reusable system. The reinforced concrete panels are
10 m by 3.45 m in plan, staying within standard transport dimensions and weight limits. Fitted with lifting lugs and a cast-in connection detail, the panels can be quickly lifted into place and bolted together longitudinally. Transverse panels are connected together with a thin 200 mm in-situ pour, which can be easily removed when disassembling due to a debonding agent applied to the precast faces.
The versatility the panels provide makes extending the slab size, moving the location of infrastructure on site and even moving between sites more economical from a time and cost perspective compared to traditional options.
